Biography
JAN
STEVENS started piano lessons at age 5, and took voice,
and classical piano lessons through high school and went on to study
with recording artists Walter Bishop Jr., (one of Charlie Parker's
pianists) Jim McNeely, Norman Simmons and Harold Mabern. After working
clubs in Boston, MA, he went on to study piano, theory, arranging
and composition at William Paterson University in Wayne, NJ. He
also composed and scored the soundtracks for two nationally-distributed
video/DVD documentaries on the JFK assassination, as well as music
for several local cable TV shows and radio in NJ, NY and Boston.
He has arranged and produced studio demo recordings for local artists
and songwriters as well.
Jan worked with various show groups, and pop and jazz bands in
the NY-NJ area and iin the Catskill Mountain resorts and Atlantic
City, with Vic Damone, Roberta Flack, the late Lou Monte, Jackie
Mason, London Lee, Freddie Roman, The Del Vikings, Gary Willner,
Tony Saxon, Van Martin and many others. His trio performed on the
Jerry Lewis Telethon in 1973 and he has played for productions of
"Guys and Dolls", "The Fantasticks", "Fiddler
on the Roof", "Bye Bye Birdie" and others. He was
pianist-conductor for the orchestra at the International Al
Jolson Society's convention in 1994. He has performed in Carnegie
Hall with the Pro Arte Chorale, the Theater at Madison Square Garden,
The Bitter End and various NJ and NYC clubs, and The Waldorf-Astoria
in NYC, and many other engagements at hotels and venues in the northeast.
In May 2000, Mr. Stevens performed in a special Bill
Evans tribute concert at the famed 92nd Street "Y"
Tisch Center Hall in NYC, along with pianists Bill Charlap, Marian
McPartland, Dick Hyman, Jack Reilly and others. He currently performs
solo and with bandsr private parties and weddings with various music
offices.

He teaches piano/theory privately, and at DiBella Music in Bergenfield,
NJ , and does some website development for musicians with NJ MetroNET,
Inc. He is now recording his original compositions for keyboards
and flutes for his first CD.
